TABATÔ RECORDS

Portugal, a major colonial player in the past, home of many migrants and destination of several more, has always been a great place to find records from everywhere in the world. It took a French-born DJ to turn this diversity into the focus of a record shop. Welcome to TABATÔ RECORDS!

Bastien (a.k.a. Selecta Orka) is the guy behind this enterprise. Previously based inside alternative venue Crew Hassan, he has relocated to an old fish market and turned it into a cosy nest for music from all origins. Music from Portuguese-speaking African countries, Brazilian music and Reggae/Dub are the main dishes, but you can also find a generous offer of jazz, soul/funk, disco, electronica, alternative and good ol' rock'n'roll, in both used and new vinyl, CDs and even cassettes!

The shop is situated in central Lisbon (between the Anjos and Arroios neighborhoods), and it's a haven for all eclectic music lovers that don't care about the nationality of their music - they will find a new home at Tabatô Records!

Live music venues in Lisbon, a guide - Part One

Lisbon Record Shops has ceased to have a regular list of live music concerts - but this guide will help YOU, the music-loving Lisbon visitor, to find great live music during your stay in our wonderful city.

First of all, you can check Viral Agenda for a list of what's happening.

If you just want to know where to go out and see some good live music, here's a small list of great venues where you won't be disappointed:

- Galeria Zé dos Bois (in Bairro Alto): The mecca of alternative music in Lisbon, in the middle of Bairro Alto. Here you'll find the cutting edge of music, from rock to hip hop without forgetting electronica, folk or jazz, and sometimes everything at once. No rules, just incredible music.
-> Location of the venue

- B.Leza (near Cais do Sodré): If you're a fan of the African smooth sounds, this is the place for you. Here you'll find the cream of Portuguese-speaking African artists, serving hot rhythms to dance throughout the night.
-> Location of the venue

- Musicbox (near Cais do Sodré): Also on the vibrant Cais do Sodré, this venue offers a very different array of live music gigs, but is known for its clubbing sessions at late hours, always betting on the new fringes of danceable electronica, sometimes with shades of hip hop or world music.
-> Location of the venue

- RCA Club (near Alvalade): If metal is your thing, you won't be disappointed. Here you'll find the heavier stuff, be it death, black, doom or plain good ol' heavy metal. From AOR to the most recent skullcrushing tendencies, RCA is a place you can call home.
-> Location of the venue

- Casa Independente (near Intendente): A marvellous spot to snack, chill with friends and listen to great music, live and otherwise.

Stay tuned for a second part of this guide in a near future!

NEAT RECORDS

"Punk's not dead", we've heard oh so many times before.
Well, one thing is certain: at NEAT RECORDS, punk is alive and well, and kept in good company with all other genres which are also available, in all formats and all prices!

Neat Records was founded by a couple of longtime friends: Rafael (which you might know from his previous shop, Megastore, and his label Monolith Records) and Eduardo (from label Can I Say Records).

The shop has a big emphasis on punk (if you hadn't noticed already) and other heavy genres, but it has a bit of everything, both on vinyl and CD, used and new. You'll find cheapos, promotions, and most of all, a great and varied catalogue waiting for your visit!

A central location (it's in the Arroios neighborhood) and two friendly hosts add up to the attraction of checking out this very nice record shop. In short, it's NEAT NEAT NEAT!

RIP Megastore

It's with a heavy heart that LRS announces the demise of MEGASTORE by Largo.
The current state of affairs caused by COVID-19 has turned a difficult situation into one impossible to maintain. Fortunately, both Nuno from A Record A Day and Rafael from Monolith will remain active: Nuno keeps selling records every Saturday at the Ladra fair, while Rafael may be found on his new shop, Neat Records. Life has to go on!
